Tropical hibiscus poached pears
http://ift.tt/2A1VPLq Gorgeous Bartlett pears are the star in this poached pear recipe. Bartlett is a unique pear as its skin color brightens as it ripens, unlike other varieties of pears which don’t really change color as they ripen. Whichever you choose, the yellow or red, the result is one delicious dessert for 290 calories per serving. Ingredients
1 bottle white wine with tropical fruit flavors (Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier are good choices)
4 hibiscus tea bags
1 cup sugar
1 orange, sliced into ½-inch rings
½ a vanilla bean, scrapings and pod
3 very firm Bartlett or Red Bartlett Pears
How to make it
Pour the wine into a saucepan with a lid, and heat until just steaming. Turn off the heat, and add the tea bags. Allow to steep for 10 minutes, and remove. Stir in the sugar, orange slices, and vanilla bean scrapings along with the vanilla pod. Prepare the pears by peeling, halving, and scooping out the cores with a melon baller. Place the pear halves into the liquid, being sure they are fully submerged. Place the pot over medium heat, cover, and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook until the pears are just tender when pierced with a fork, about 12-15 minutes. Check on the pears occasionally to be sure they are submerged, turning if necessary. Once tender, remove the pears from the liquid and set aside to cool slightly. Increase the heat to high, and bring the sauce to a boil. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce is slightly thickened and tastes concentrated and delicious. Serve the pear halves topped with several spoonfuls of the sauce.

Pumpkin black bean brownies
http://ift.tt/2lv0ty2 Add protein to baked goods by adding blended beans to the batter. The dates, cocoa powder, pumpkin, and chocolate balance the flavors beautifully so you don’t get a beany taste—just a deliciously moist, better-for-you brownie. Ingredients
1 cup old-fashion oats
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup medjool dates, soaked overnight
1/3 cup honey
1 (15-oz) can black beans, rinsed
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
3 Tbsp coconut oil, melted
1/4 cup dark chocolate chunks
How to make it
Preheat oven to 350° and grease a 9x9" brownie pan with coconut oil or nonstick spray. Blend the oats in a food processor until they form a "flour" consistency. Mix in the baking soda, sea salt, and pumpkin pie spice with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula. Rinse the black beans very well, and shake off the excess water. Add the beans, dates, vanilla extract, honey, cocoa powder, melted coconut oil, and pumpkin puree to a food processor. Blend until all the ingredients are creamy and smooth, and the oats are undetectable in the batter. Mix in the chocolate chunks with a big spoon or spatula. Place in pan, and spread out with the back of a silicone spatula or slightly damp spoon. The batter will be quite thick. Bake for 20-25 minutes, then remove from the oven and let the brownies cool for about 5 minutes in the pan before slicing and serving. Please note, baking time will depend upon your oven and altitude. My brownies are usually ready in about 22 minutes. Adjust baking time based on your oven, and check on the brownies in 20 minutes to make sure they don’t burn.

The most creative (and most ridiculous) NFL touchdown celebrations of 2017-2018
http://ift.tt/2gYcPh3 The NFL isn’t quite the “No Fun League” anymore. After plenty of criticism about coming down too harshly on players celebrating touchdowns in games, the league relaxed its penalty rules on celebrations for the 2017 season. [RELATED1] The relaxed rules allow a few new things for players: 1. They can use the football as a prop in celebrations Keeping those new guidelines in mind, players have gotten creative with their decidedly theatrical celebrations. [RELATED2] Here’s a look at the best from the 2017 season (so far): 1. The Steelers channel their inner James Harrison with a mock weightlifting session:
2. The Packers channel the Cool Runnings bobsled team:
3. Juju Smith-Schuster leads the Steelers in a game of hide-and-seek:
4a. The Eagles play some baseball—first, as Torrey Smith smashes a 'home run' with the football...
4b. ...and then when Alshon Jeffrey gets "hit by a pitch" and charges the mound:
5. When in Rome (or London, rather): Adam Thielen does a soccer celebration slide:
6. The Vikings go back to the schoolyard days:
7. Devonta Freeman shoots a free throw:Keep an eye on this during the season for more fun and wild celebrations. [RELATED3] Fitness via Men's Fitness http://ift.tt/Jz6nE4 October 30, 2017 at 03:41PM
The simplest way to unclog a drain
http://ift.tt/2iggWRX Looking for simple, inexpensive ways to unclog a drain without calling out the heavy artillery (store-bought chemicals)? There are plenty. So long as it's not too clogged. [RELATED1] If it’s just draining slowly (read: not packed solid with gunk), try this: Remember that volcano you made as a kid, with baking soda and vinegar? Well, it can also be used to blow open a slow-moving drain. First, pour a pot of boiling water down the drain. Chase that with 1⁄2 cup baking soda, 1 cup vinegar, and 1 cup water, and watch the magic. If you’ve got a drain cover, use it to contain the reaction; if not, fill a plastic bag with water and place it over the drain, or cover it with a plunger (but for the love of God, don’t actually plunge the drain). After 5–10 minutes, flush it with another pot of boiling water. If that doesn’t work, it’s time to bring in the big guns. 7 easy ways to eat lean ground beef
http://ift.tt/YkO2Su It used to be practically a taboo to admit you liked beef, but guess what? This quintessential protein is healthier than you thought. It turns out that beef isn’t just OK to eat—it’s actually good for you, says Carolyn O’Neil, M.S., R.D. Take a look at what lean ground beef is packing:
[RELATED1] Now, we know. You’re worried about eating red meat too often. But relax, says O’Neil. You can safely eat lean red meat up to twice a week—just make sure you choose the right stuff at the supermarket. Go for at least 90% lean beef, because leaner beef is lower in fat and calories—but maintains almost the same protein content as fattier ones. Score. Ready to add a little red into your meals? These seven ideas will make your mouth (and body) happy. Fitness via Men's Fitness http://ift.tt/Jz6nE4 October 30, 2017 at 03:06PM

Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are reportedly in talks for 'Lethal Weapon 5'
http://ift.tt/2lthh8I It looks like Mel Gibson and Danny Glover may, in fact, not be too old for this shit. According to a report by Deadline, Gibson, Glover, and longtime series director Richard Donner are in talks for a fifth movie in the Lethal Weapon series. [RELATED1] The report makes sure to note that discussions are still extremely early, but that all three players are apparently on board and discussing possible options. Lethal Weapon was an '80s action movie classic, which cemented Gibson and Glover's legacy as household names. The film had three sequels of varying degrees of quality; the last installment, Lethal Weapon 4, was released nearly 20 years ago. [RELATED2] Time will tell what the fifth movie will entail, but we can only hope for more insanely quotable one-liners. Fitness via Men's Fitness http://ift.tt/Jz6nE4 October 30, 2017 at 12:45PM
