How bouldering can fight depression
When your goal is to not fall and break bones, that can keep your mind from dwelling on negatives and actually beat depression.
Climbing can be used to build muscle and endurance, while also helping to reduce stress, making it a therapeutic treatment to fight the symptoms of depression, according to a recent study from the University of Arizona and University of Erlangen.
The research, which looked specifically at bouldering—rock climbing done close to the ground with no ropes—found that people who climbed three to four hours a week for eight weeks moved from moderate to mild depression.
So the next time you're feeling down, you might want to consider climbing up your local indoor rock wall or even making a trek to the great outdoors.
