Health Nut Smoothie (Tropical Smoothie Copycat)
https://ift.tt/2Kgk7as
Right after college I was determined to stay consistent with my healthy eating and I thought that drinking a smoothie for lunch was the healthiest option. Because of this, I used to go to Tropical Smoothie Cafe all the time and my go-to order was the Health Nut Smoothie. It has blueberries, mango, banana, almond and a choice of protein. Want to know what else it has? Added sugar… yup, despite the fruit in the smoothie, Tropical Smoothie adds sugar to this smoothie.
This was early on in my health journey, but I knew adding white sugar to smoothies wasn’t necessary so I’d ask for it without the sugar. It was still plenty sweet! If you order it regularly the smoothie has 80 grams of sugar. Of course now you can get it made with Splenda, but I don’t recommend consuming Splenda (aka sucralose) so I’d steer clear of this option! This remake of the Health Nut smoothie is plenty sweet (and flavorful overall!) without any added sugar. I honestly prefer my version to the “real deal” and feel good knowing exactly what’s going in the smoothie too.
Ingredients in the Health Nut Smoothie
How to Make a Health Nut SmoothieIt’s super simple! Put all of the ingredients into a high powered blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy! Pro tip: if you can’t get the consistency of your smoothie similar to what you would find at a smoothie shop like Tropical Smoothie Cafe, use frozen fruit! Frozen fruit and veggies make the texture of smoothies thick and creamy. If you use frozen fruit and find that your smoothie is too thick, add a little more liquid (like almond milk) to get to the consistency you like.
