Ladies Only: Nutrition and Training for Performance and Cramps
http://bit.ly/2W4wwlD
Make the most of your cycle by learning what works for you while training.
Like clockwork, every other month when the tomato truck was in town, I used to wake up at 5 am with cramps on the cusp of becoming crippling.
If the tomato truck seems like a too-descriptive visual, then how’s shark week? It seems a little more subtle and might make you feel fierce.
Every other month only?

Caprese Chickpea Burgers
http://bit.ly/2WC01Q2 Lighten up your summer eating with this chickpea based vegetarian burger. Mixed up with a compliment of Italian seasonings, these chickpea patties bring a bit of pizzaz to your table while providing protein and fiber. One of the problems I’ve come across when making vegetarian burgers is that they tend to be more of a challenge to hold together because the legume base is a lower fat content than using meat. In order to allow this burger to be pressed together and remain moist, ground flaxseed and olive oil are added. Flax is a great emulsifier and helps to bind the chickpeas together. The olive oil also helps to keep these from feeling too crumbly and gives the burgers a pleasant texture.
Harness the flavor of a Caprese salad by topping the chickpea burger with a slice of fresh mozzarella and pesto. Sandwich this between two ends of a tomato for a unique presentation and a healthy low carb alternative to a bun. Other non-bun alternatives you could use include lightly grilled slices of zucchini, summer squash, eggplant, sweet potato, or lettuce wraps. Any way you wrap it, this easy vegetarian burger leaves you feeling light on your feet and ready to tackle that next workout.

The UFC Just Released a Ton of Killer Content for Free on YouTube
http://bit.ly/2wwRyz3 Last year, the UFC celebrated its 25th anniversary by releasing a series of videos highlighting the most iconic moments in the sport. At first, these clips were only available on the UFC’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass. Now, with the celebratory year in the rearview, the company posted all of the exclusive content for free on its YouTube channel for fans to lose countless hours of productivity to. True mixed martial arts fanboys will enjoy the insider stories that detail milestone moments in the company's history, like the time the UFC had to pick up and move its entire operation from Niagara Falls, New York to Dothan, Alabama in less than 24 hours after New York banned MMA fights in 1997. (That ban was later lifted in 2016.) There’s also The Lion’s Den, a 14-minute-long video that focuses on legendary UFC fighter, Ken Shamrock. Regarded as one of the toughest fighters at the time, this mini-documentary takes your through Shamrock's start in the sport, including his loss in 1993 to legendary Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner Royce Gracie, and how he leveraged that unwanted fame to assemble the first-ever MMA team—The Lion’s Den. In 2016, the UFC was sold for $4 billion to WME-IMG. It was a defining moment for the world of MMA, one that signified the legitimacy of the sport and propelled it to new heights with bigger fight cards, better fighter promotion, and, as of January 2019, a TV deal with ESPN. Whether you were a fan or not, you most likely heard about the sale, and the short documentary Three Guys and Three Letters takes viewers through the inception of the organization from a business perspective and discusses the sale of the UFC. If you want to check out the full collection of videos—which also includes a selection of free fights, the origin story of the Octagon, a look at UFC President Dana White’s relationship with Donald Trump, and the entire UFC 1 event—check out the UFC’s YouTube channel.

Lou Ferrigno Really Wants You to Get Off Your Damn Phone at the Gym
http://bit.ly/2Xiaoph Lou Ferrigno reached bodybuilding legend status in his prime, going toe-to-toe with Arnold Schwarzenegger himself on the Olympia stage and playing the Incredible Hulk in the days before CGI was around to turn a man into a jade-jawed monster. It goes without saying that Ferrigno has always taken his workouts seriously, and at 67 years old, he still hits the gym hard to stay in killer shape. Given his wealth of knowledge when it comes to building and maintaining muscle, it's no surprise that Ferrigno shares training tips and videos on Instagram from time to time. But he took to the platform on Wednesday to draw attention to a gym pet peeve of his: mid-workout phone users who take up unnecessary space in the gym. Let's be honest: You either hate it when people pull this all-too-common move, or you are the person who's so absorbed in your phone that you tell a legendary bodybuilder to wait a few minutes while you scroll through your social feeds and text your mom. If you're the latter, Ferrigno has exactly no time for your bullshit. At the end of the video, he shares his tips for lifters who are tired of having their workouts interrupted by slackers. If you can do it without being rude, Ferrigno suggests telling the person that if they're not here to train, they shouldn't bother spending time at the gym. If social interaction in the middle of a workout isn't your thing, Ferrigno's advice is to move on with a different exercise and address the problem later. "Don't let them discourage you," he said. "Find another machine, and complain to the manager." Whether or not you address the problem with Ferrigno's suggested approaches, one thing's for sure: You don't want to be that guy at the gym, and you don't want to piss off the Incredible Hulk. Larry Wheels Proves He’s Not From This Planet With a 675-Pound Bench Press
http://bit.ly/2W4YTQy For how many personal records Larry “Wheels” Williams sets week after week, you’d think we’d be used to it by now. Then he goes and presses 675 fucking pounds over his chest like it was a broomstick. What’s also amazing is that his elbows can flare out like that at the top without that half-a-smart-car worth of weight turning him into Larry Wheel-chair. (And let's be honest, that spotter wouldn't have been much help.) According to Dr. Pat Davidson—an exercise physiologist and the Director of Methodology at Hype Gym in NYC—what enables a specimen like Williams to consistently put up that weight is his penchant for practice. “It’s the same as signing your name. When you’re doing that, you had a sheet of paper in front of you that showed you exactly the right shape to make for the letters that are in your name and you practiced over and over, and now you’re able to standardize the way you do it,” Davidson said on a recent episode of The Muscle & Fitness Podcast Reps. “It’s the old Bruce Lee quote of ‘I do not fear the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once. I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.'” In other words: Larry can bench that amount of weight with that form because it’s all he’s ever done. If he were to keep his elbows tucked in at 45 degrees the entire time or un-rack the bar slowly, well, he’d most likely be weaker (weaker, being relative, of course). While we can almost guarantee that you’re a long way from a 675-pound press, this program should help you in your effort to up your bench press. In the meantime, we hope this video inspires you to crush your goals.

Shawn Ray Disagrees With Arnold Schwarzenegger's Stance on Drug Testing in Bodybuilding
http://bit.ly/2IabUU3
The IFBB Hall of Famer wants to see the biggest and the best athletes.
At the Arnold Classic in Africa, Arnold Schwarzenegger called for drug testing in bodybuilding. You can read the full story here, but in short, his points were that steroid culture enables users to take more and more to stay competitive, while non-competitors are influenced to partake in drugs that are linked to low cholesterol, low sex drive, hair loss, and depression. “A lot of people then get the feeling that if they did drugs, then that would enhance their performance,” Schwarzenegger said. “But what happens is if you think that two pills will help you, then there are guys that say, ‘OK, if I take 10, it will be five times as good.’ Then they go and overdose.” On the other hand, IFBB Pro League Hall of Famer Shawn Ray said in an episode of the Shawn Ray Report that, “Steroids have been around for a very long time, and it’s a very personal choice in which ones athletes use.” Ray believes that professional bodybuilders who understand the intricacies of these drugs and use them to boost recovery and sustain muscle mass during a low-calorie diet should be free to choose to take them or not. He likens that decision to watching NASCAR, saying that fans want to see how fast cars can go without crashing and burning, and though they sometimes crash, overall, they’re well-oiled machines. “I respectfully disagree with the governor about bringing back drug testing,” says Ray, who failed the only drug-tested Arnold Classic competition in 1990. “Let the athletes decide what’s best for them to entertain in their chosen field. I don’t care what they do or what they take. I want to see the best-looking athlete.”

'Rambo: Last Blood' Trailer: Rambo Rages Through Mexico
http://bit.ly/2Xf7e5B More than a decade after the fifth installment debuted, Sylvester Stallone is back for another entry in the Rambo franchise with Last Blood. The first footage from the movie debuted at the Cannes Film Festival back in May, but this is the first opportunity for the general public to see some extended clips beyond the behind-the-scenes snippets Stallone has been posting to his Instagram. Here’s the official plot synopsis, according to Deadline: "[W]hen the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped, Rambo, who has been working on a ranch, crosses the U.S.-Mexican border and quickly finds himself up against the full might of one of Mexico’s most violent cartels.” [RELATED1] Outside of Stallone, the film will also feature Paz Vega (Carmen Delgado), who’s “a reporter who covers the Mexican drug trade and teams up with Rambo after her younger half-sister is kidnapped,” according to THR. The kidnapped daughter, Gabrielle, will be played by Yvette Monreal. Sergio Peris-Mencheta will be playing the main villain, Hugo Martinez, a cartel worker on the loose. The Spanish actor is most known for portraying Gustavo "El Oso" Zapata in the FX crime drama, Snowfall. Director Adrian Grunberg was tapped to helm the ship. He’s worked as a second-unit director for Apocalypto, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and a total of 22 episodes in the Narcos and Narcos: Mexico Netflix series. Rambo: Last Blood will be hitting theaters on September 20.
