We spent last weekend at the most magical little farm near the mountains!
It was totally a last minute decision to go, but we really just felt like we needed a bit of a break from city life and the rat race in general. Adam grew up out in the country and we both love to daydream about one day having our own little farm with a great big garden for our kids to grow up on. I love where we live, but every time we get out in the country a bit, I always find myself dreaming about the possibilities. ?
Anyway, I found this place on Airbnb and it turned out to be such a find! The owner, Ruth, was so accommodating to us and shared her homemade cheese and fresh milk each day we were there. Let’s just say that my boys are forever spoiled after trying that milk! I honestly didn’t even think I LIKED milk until I tried the real deal. So fresh and wonderful…and now it’s pretty much impossible to go back to the stuff they sell at the store. I don’t have too much else to say, here, because we didn’t actually DO too much while we were there! It was very peaceful and very relaxing, which is a rare thing when you’re traveling with little kids. On Saturday, we drove into town and visited the local farmers market for some veggies to cook with dinner. We were lucky enough to purchase some fresh meat at the farm to cook up right there — best steak of my entire life! I totally bought another 10 lbs or so of meat, as well as her wonderful homemade cheese, to keep in our freezer at home before we headed back. It makes such a difference when you know how humanely the animals are treated and all of the wonderful green grass they get to roam around on all day long. Everything there just felt so healthy and right.
It’s incredibly important to me to show my boys where their food comes from. I have always felt passionate about this, but I will say it’s been in the last year that this passion has really been ignited as we’ve partnered with a few local farms to supply our family with veggies and meat. We already booked our return trip to the farm this winter and I can’t wait. All of the baby animals are born in December and I think my kids will just go nuts (I know I will). The boys were just so happy there, running around picking berries and chasing the dogs. Our trip really made me think on a few things, especially the dairy industry, and I’m exploring some “options” locally regarding all that.
Here are some photos from our trip! If you live locally and would like the actual link of the farm, please email me and I’ll get it to you.
