The Exact HIIT Workout This Revenge Body Trainer Does With His Female Clients
http://ift.tt/2DIrNlf If you're on a weight-loss journey and you love to work out, it can be hard to decide which kinds of workouts to actually do at the gym. How do you know what will be the most effective? Corey Calliet, a Revenge Body trainer who helped shape Michael B. Jordan's villainous body in Black Panther, has seen many new clients go through this uncomfortable phase . . . which is why he shared a workout with POPSUGAR for anyone out there who is willing to work up a sweat. Knowing that Corey also briefly worked with Angela Bassett while she was preparing for Black Panther, we asked him what kinds of exercises are best for women who want to lose weight. "I would do a lot of plyometric and HIIT training," he told us. "If you just want to try to stay toned and lean, I do a lot of different cardiovascular HIIT training movements." If you're nodding your head in agreement right now, you're in luck. Corey laid out the ultimate workout for those of you who want to get toned. Keep in mind, though, that there are quite a few plyometric movements in this workout, so this likely isn't for you if you're a total beginner or if you have any knee issues. The WorkoutThere are four different movements you'll go through. Do each for 30 seconds, then rest for 30 seconds. Repeat the entire circuit for a total of five rounds. Get ready to sweat! "Doing those right there will get your heart rate up," Corey said. "That's pretty much a basic and easy type of HIIT training that you could do. It doesn't have to be crazy. The easiest movements done consistently will really get you a good workout." Sounds good to us! Descriptions of each movement are ahead. The Big Weight-Loss Mistake This Revenge Body Trainer Doesn't Want You to Make
http://ift.tt/2DJ0GGN It seems like everything matters when you're trying to lose weight. You have to be diligent about what you eat, how often you work out, and the kind of people you surround yourself with. Let's not sugarcoat it: it can feel very overwhelming at times. POPSUGAR spoke with Corey Calliet, a Revenge Body trainer who also regularly works with Michael B. Jordan, and he has seen countless clients struggle with their weight-loss goals. We asked him to tell us the number one mistake he sees people making when they're trying to shed pounds and get healthy. His one-word answer? "Stopping." "That's it. That's the biggest mistake," he told us. Losing weight takes a lot of dedication and consistency, and Corey says many people end up doing things they don't love to do, which hinders them from achieving their goals. For example, if you don't like to run, yet you keep doing it because you think it's going to help you lose weight, you're just going to end up quitting. Similarly, if you start to follow a specific diet just because it's worked for your friends previously, but you hate the food you're eating every day, you're going to revert back to your habits pretty quickly. You have to find the workouts and the healthy food that you actually like doing and eating. "Having patience and finding what we can actually enjoy" is crucial in your weight-loss regimen, according to Corey, "because a lot of people go do things they don't enjoy, and that distracts them from doing what they need to do." "So find something that you really love, and don't quit at it," Corey advised. "But don't stop. By stopping, you're always going to be a step back." This Fitness Guru Did a Workout With Her Baby's Stroller, and It Looks Pretty Damn Hard
http://ift.tt/2DGFxJg Massy Arias is a fitness extraordinaire. She's an online trainer (with over 2.4 million followers on Instagram!) and a busy mom who somehow finds time to stay incredibly fit and healthy. We're always looking to her for inspiration. Her latest workout proves that multitasking is the name of the game when you're a superfit mom. To prove that workouts can be done anywhere with any equipment, Massy used her 1-year-old daughter's stroller to work up a sweat. (Maybe don't try this at home, though, unless you're a fitness guru like Massy!) She starts by doing a Bulgarian split squat while holding dumbbells at her sides. However, her back foot is resting on her daughter Indira's stroller, and when she comes out of the squat, she does a deep swimmer's press with the weights. Next she does a single-leg deadlift into a lunge, holding a dumbbell in one hand and rocking the stroller with the other. Then comes a burpee with a kick over the stroller as she stands up. Are you sweating yet?! But there's more. Massy then does a deadlift and row with the carrier - and Indira - in her hands. After that, she does a step-back lunge with Indira on her shoulders, then finishes up with a single-leg hip thrust with her baby in her lap. Phew! Now that's a badass mom if we've ever seen one. 3 Amazing Changes That Happened to My Body After 6 Months of Weightlifting
http://ift.tt/2nhW0ww I've always been a pretty athletic person. Having played tennis throughout my adolescence and doing CrossFit for a couple years, being physically active has always been a passion of mine. In 2016, though, due to some unfortunate circumstances that life threw my way, I let my fitness fall to the wayside. I subsequently gained a lot of weight (about 30 pounds), partly because, in addition to not working out at all, I was eating a lot of unhealty food. But in 2017, I'd had enough, so I decided to turn things around and get back on track. The first thing I turned to was weightlifting. This was mostly because I really missed the strength-training component that came with with CrossFit. After six months of consistent strength training, I've seen some pretty incredible changes - not only in my body, but in my whole life. My Physique Changed, but I Didn't Lose a Single PoundYou may look at my "after" photo and think I lost a lot of weight. And I wouldn't blame you, because I definitely look smaller. However, I weigh exactly the same as I did six months ago. I didn't lose a single pound! That's the most fascinating part about strength training - it will truly change your body, but because muscle weighs more than fat, the number on the scale might not really change. In fact, it may even go up. This was a great reminder that the scale doesn't matter when it comes to getting healthy and feeling your best. Your body and mind can completely change without worrying too much about how many pounds you weigh. I Lost Belly Fat (Without Doing Any Ab Exercises)I've always had trouble with my midsection. Even when I was playing sports or doing CrossFit regularly, I never saw my belly shrink. I just thought having a flat tummy wasn't in the cards for me, and I was truly OK with that. That's why I was really surprised to see my waist shrink after a few months of regular strength training. I know some of it had to do with my diet (I started intermittent fasting four months ago), but I can't entirely leave strength training off the table. My trainer always tells me that the compound lifts we usually do - that is, movements that work multiple muscle groups at the same time - target the core more than you realize. For example, front squats, pull-ups, and push press are movements that require a lot of stability in your abs. So even though I never did ab routines, I still worked the hell out of my core, and that helped me build more muscle and shed fat around my midsection. I Fell in Love With My New Muscle DefinitionI've been told for most of my life that weightlifting is for dudes, and that lifting heavy weights will make women look bulky, manly, and even unattractive. But as I saw new muscle definition gradually show up on my body, especially around my arms and back, I couldn't help but be so proud of my new figure. I love how strong I look, and that "muscly" look that is stereotypically associated with men is exactly the thing that helped me shed excess fat and let my curves shine through. It's ironic - the very workout that is considered to be the most "manly" is the one that helped me appreciate my womanhood more than ever. Finally, a 7-Day Detox Plan That's Doable
http://ift.tt/2FmkX19 As much as I like to tell diets to go f*ck themselves, I can also admit that a detox would probably do me good. The thought of ridding my body of the bad stuff and feeling noticeably healthier sounds amazing, but I've struggled to find a plan that didn't intimidate me. I refuse to cut carbs for an entire week or limit my food intake to liquids. I want to continue living my life as it is; but maybe just a little healthier. So, I recruited the help of registered dietitian and nutritionist, Lisa Mastela, MPH, RD, to help design a doable seven-day plan that didn't require drastic measures. Lisa made it clear right off the bat that she wasn't an advocate of traditional detoxes (as most registered dietitians aren't) for these reasons: detoxes can actually inhibit, not promote, weight loss; your liver already serves as a built-in detox system, making most detoxes redundant; and many detoxes involve juice, which are typically high in sugar and low in fiber (no fiber, equals no detox). But if your goal is to feel energized or kickstart healthy habits, Lisa's all for a solid detox. "Being in tune with your 'why' - specific to you - will help you avoid putting energy into unnecessary parts of a detox and allow you to focus on your end game and getting there," she told POPSUGAR. "For instance, if you want to feel more energized, detoxing on a juice cleanse but then staying up late on Instagram is not going to do anything to your energy levels. If you want to feel more balanced, spending your whole weekend meal prepping vegan detox meals till you're blue in the face and doing nothing to adjust your work schedule is not going to get you there." Basically, hone in on your goals in the beginning to avoid undoing all your hard work in the process. Before we get into Lisa's day-by-day breakdown, here are six things she says are absolutely necessary in a worthy detox.
Although the following list is not mandatory, Lisa recommends avoiding these foods during your detox if you truly want to go above and beyond.
Ahead you'll find daily meal suggestions, from breakfast to dinner, straight from Lisa. Feel free to move your snack times around and if you find yourself starving, listen to your body and add a snack. Most importantly, don't forget to stay hydrated! Olympian Aly Raisman Proves You Can Work Your Butt Anywhere, Even on a Sidewalk
http://ift.tt/2DG4Gnr Gymnast Aly Raisman is a hero on so many levels. Not only is she an Olympic medalist, but she's an advocate for sexual assault survivors and a body positive activist. She's also a huge fitness inspiration for just about anyone, no matter what your level of fitness may be. The Dogpound, a New York City gym that's known to train models and athletes, posted a video of Aly doing a booty workout. While you might expect her to be doing this movement inside the gym, she's actually working up a sweat on the sidewalk, proving you don't need a gym full of equipment in order to feel the burn. She's got a band wrapped around her legs just above her knees, and she's doing lateral walks in a squat position. This movement may look easy, but all it takes is a few seconds before you feel your legs and glutes on fire. Well, if Aly can do a workout on the sidewalk, so can we. Excuse us while we grab our bands, and we'll meet you outside! Health via POPSUGAR Fitness http://ift.tt/2mWxwLI January 26, 2018 at 12:58PM
