Jordana Brewster would ‘absolutely’ do a ‘Fast and Furious’ spinoff with Michelle Rodriguez
http://ift.tt/2BvlUC0 After eight movies and more than $5 billion grossed worldwide, the Fast and Furious franchise is getting its first spinoff. After showing some amazing chemistry in Fate of the Furious, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham are teaming up for their own film, tentatively titled Hobbs and Shaw, which is set for release on July 26, 2019. The film will follow Johnson’s DSS agent and bounty hunter Luke Hobbs, and Statham’s Deckard Shaw, an assassin-turned-good-guy, as they form an "unlikely alliance." [RELATED1] Two more Fast & Furious films are set for release after that--Furious 9 on April 10, 2020 and Furious 10 on April 2, 2021—and those are expected to conclude the franchise that started back in 2001. The series has become one of the most successful in film history, and, knowing how Hollywood operates these days, additional "unplanned" spinoffs and sequels wouldn’t be a surprise. We know one actress who's game for a spinoff: Jordana Brewster. “That would be awesome,” Brewster told Men’s Fitness after being asked if she'd be interested in a spinoff with Michelle Rodriguez. “Put it out there. Absolutely. Yes, yes, I think that sounds awesome.” After sitting out of The Fate of the Furious, Brewster's making her return in Furious 9 and Furious 10 as Mia Toretto—sister of Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto and girlfriend of the late Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Conner. She’s excited to return and get the chance to work alongside longtime friend and co-star Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz. “I think we're at a really cool time in Hollywood where people are really giving women the voice they deserve,” Brewster says. “I'm excited to play with Michelle a little more in the next movie. I think it would be really cool to explore Letty and Mia's friendship—and maybe get us out there to kick some ass. I think that would be very cool. [RELATED2] With badass women like Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman, Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde, and Jennifer Lawrence in the upcoming Red Sparrow kicking ass on the big screen, we wouldn't be surprised to see Brewster and Rodriguez get in on the action—even if there are no definitive plans or development currently for their own Fast and Furious spinoff. "Doing the stunt work is always fun,” Brewster says. “You never want to let the fans down. You always want to be as strong as possible. You always want the stunt to look as real as possible. I'm always up for the challenge.” [RELATED3] Fitness via Men's Fitness http://ift.tt/2u0SmvI January 26, 2018 at 04:38PM

Jordana Brewster on returning to the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, how she likes to blow off steam, and her favorite memory of Paul Walker
http://ift.tt/2ndwGbS After sitting out of the eighth Fast and Furious film, Jordana Brewster is ready to rev things up again. The actress, who portrayed Mia Toretto in all but three of the Furious films, is coming back for the ninth and 10th installments of the franchise. [RELATED1] It made sense plot-wise that Brewster was absent from the Fate of the Furious. That film followed Furious 7, which marked the final appearance of actor Paul Walker, following his tragic death. The film took Mia and Walker’s character, Brian O’Connor, out of the Furious life to raise their newborn child. But now Brewster is pumped to rejoin her movie “family”. “It makes me really happy to come back,” Brewster tells Men’s Fitness. “I was kind of bummed out not to have been a part of the last one. I felt like I was missing out because they're family. I adore Vin [Diesel] and Michelle [Rodriguez]. We've been a part of each other's lives for so long, so I'm so happy to be back in fold.” [RELATED2] Brewster also is a spokesperson for Autotrader.com, the online car-shopping destination that has the largest selection of vehicles to search from. Their tools allow you to shop for all types cars and find the right car for you. That’s exactly what Brewster did when she was looking for a new ride. Want to know more about Brewster? She spoke with Men’s Fitness about how she stays fit, her favorite Fast & Furious moments, how Autotrader helped her find a new car, and what she misses most about working with Walker. Men’s Fitness: What’s your training regimen like?Jordana Brewster: I'm very old-school when it comes to the gym. I have a treadmill and a little gym at home, so I like to get up early and work out. I’ll do cardio six days a week, and I really like weight training and boxing...it's a great way to get all your stress out. I actually like it when my muscles ache and when I'm sore. [RELATED3] I’ve also been working with trainer Harley Pasternak for more than a decade, and he’s given me a great program. I work two different muscle groups per day, even if it's 15 minutes. I love doing deadlifts and squats. I'll use a TRX for pullups and hamstring curls, and medicine balls for abs work. I like mixing it up. I also like to do meditation and get myself outside for a workout—like hikes or going to the Santa Monica stairs. I think these days everyone's so glued to their phone, and it's so hard to be present and focused. Twice a day I practice vedic meditation [a type of meditation during which you take 20 minutes to focus on a specific mantra or sound—perfect for busy people], and it really helps me stay calm, have more patience with my kids, and be more present at work. It just gives me bandwidth. It allows me to recharge. It's a necessity. What’s the best part about your role on Lethal Weapon?I really love the mix of comedy and drama on Lethal Weapon. I think it's got a lot of heart. I also love the fact I'm playing this really strong female character. I think of her as Lorraine Bracco's role on The Sopranos. She doesn't take any crap from any of the boys. And I'm the doctor, so I get to do that. [RELATED4] What’s your favorite of the Fast and Furious films? What excites you most about coming back to the franchise?Fast Five—it’s always Five--that’s my favorite. It’s set in Brazil, where I grew up. It’s amazing to be back, and I think people forget what Justin Lin [director of Furious installments 3-6, returning for 9 and 10] did after the third movie. With the fourth Fast & Furious, it was his idea to bring back all the originals. It's been very cool to be a part of something that continues to grow. Something like this comes once in a lifetime. I really can't wait for the next chapter. We have the best fans in the world and it’s very cool that the series has been introduced to new generations—and we have die-hard fans that have been with us since the beginning. What are some of your favorite memories of Paul Walker?I remember this stunt scene with Paul in Fast Five. I didn't even know we were going to shoot it, then all of a sudden there was a harness in my trailer. I said to [director] Justin Lin, ‘What's this about?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, yeah. You're jumping off a roof.’ Paul just kept cheering me on that day. He was so patient. Paul was a guy who loved and relished every minute of what he was doing. He loved traveling and surfing—he had so much more going on than just the movies, and he was so generous with his time. He was one of the best parts of this franchise, and I hope they'll continue to honor him, remind people of him, and be a part of his legacy, which is a beautiful thing. I miss him every day. He was such a good friend—a good soul. That's hard to come by.

You know a thing or two about cars. How did your partnership with Autotrader come about? It actually came about in a very natural way. Late last year I decided to switch cars, because I recently became a board member of the Environmental Media Association. So I was like, you know what, it doesn't make sense for me to drive a Range Rover. It's a beautiful SUV, but a massive gas-guzzler. I wanted to be more environmentally conscious, but I still wanted something that would fit my kids. I had this list of stuff I wanted, and I wanted one place where I could fact-check it all. Autotrader provided me with all that. I compared all the different hybrid SUVs out there, got different rates, saw different colors, and it just made it really, really easy. It made sense to collaborate with them now, because it's something I actually use; it's a useful tool for me. What was it like working on The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story?[Director] Ryan Murphy is amazing. Usually someone's an expert on horror, serial killers, or true stories—not all three. But Ryan did Glee, he did Popular, and he has American Crime Story and American Horror Story. He's a genius. I was so excited to get that job, then there was this responsibility that came with it because I was playing a real person: Denise Simpson. I wanted to honor Nicole Simpson and Denise, and the work she's done fighting for victims of domestic violence. I also love doing research and a period piece. I would do anything to work with him again. He's amazing. [RELATED5] Fitness via Men's Fitness http://ift.tt/2u0SmvI January 26, 2018 at 04:23PM
Lamb and feta burger with saffron yogurt sauce
http://ift.tt/2BwjjrF Would you like a side of sex with that? Then get ready to flip your next barbecue on its head. According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the amount of sodium in a typical meal can significantly reduce blood flow—and we mean all blood flow—within as few as 30 minutes of taking your last bite. With less sodium than ground beef, ground lamb keeps the wind in your sails. Lamb also contains niacin, which helps your body convert food to energy. More important, it further boosts circulation and ramps up the production of sex hormones. Your sailboat just turned into a speedboat, and, as any speedboat salesman will tell you, that’s not all! [RELATED1] Niacin supports the absorption of calcium, like the calcium in Feta cheese—which the women at your speedboat barbecue soiree will love about this burger because it contains fewer calories than the Swiss and cheddar cheese you had at your last barbecue, and less fat, too. Little do they know that in 2007 a group of Belgian researchers published a study in the journal Headache, in which they discovered that riboflavin, a B vitamin found in feta cheese, can reduce both the frequency and duration of headaches. So much for that excuse. You’re welcome. Let it marinate Marinades with a vinegar or lemon base may prevent potentially carcinogenic chemicals associated with grilling from sticking to the meat. Sugary marinades, which encourage charring, have the opposite effect and should be used only in the last minute or two of grilling. Ingredients
1 lb ground lamb
1 tsp sweet paprika
1⁄4 tsp salt
4 tsp fresh mint leaves, minced
Pinch saffron
6 oz plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
1 tsp fresh oregano, minced
1 medium tomato, diced
2 oz low-fat feta
1 tsp olive oil
8 whole-wheat mini pitas
How to make it
Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine lamb, paprika, salt, and 2tsp mint. Divide into four equal portions, and form into patties. Set aside. In a small bowl, combine saffron with 1tsp hot water, and let sit for 2-3 minutes. Break up the saffron threads with your fingers, and mix with the water. Add the yogurt and oregano, and mix to combine. Set aside. In another small bowl, combine the tomato, feta, olive oil, and remaining 2tsp mint; set aside. Grill the burgers for 3 minutes per side (for medium) or until desired doneness. Add the pitas to the grill, and heat for 1 minute per side to soften. Top four of the pitas with a burger, 1Tbsp of the saffron yogurt sauce, and a heaping spoonful of the tomato salad. Finish off with remaining pitas, and serve immediately with additional sauce on the side if desired.

Australia's known for some pretty spectacular things--beautiful beaches, killer waves, amazing barbecue—its growing list of talented, ultra-ripped actors is the most impressive, though. These guys play superheroes, mutants, and everything in-between—and they've got the six-pack abs, imposing upper bodies, and carved quads to prove it. Running and Skipping in Boots
http://ift.tt/2BwAIAa A few months ago, I posted a short clip of myself running hills and skipping rope in boots. In the time since, I’ve received a plethora of questions and comments about the video, so perhaps a short entry is warranted. When I posted the clip, I wasn’t suggesting that everyone abandon their running shoes in place of boots. I was simply demonstrating something that I’ve done on occasion for many years. I didn’t invent the concept though. Many great fighters ran in boots to increase the challenge to the lower body. As for examples, former world champion Marvin Hagler was one of my early inspirations (pictured above).
Running and Skipping DemoBefore I elaborate on why I occasionally train in boots, here’s the brief video that I referenced before. As you’ll see, it’s not much different from many of the conditioning videos that I’ve shared in the past. The only difference are the steel toe boots that I’m wearing. BenefitsMy reasoning for occasionally running and skipping in boots is simple. To put it bluntly, it’s tough and I enjoy the challenge. I don’t need science to confirm that my legs are exhausted after performing the work. The fatigue that my legs experience comes on faster and more significantly when compared to performing the same work in running shoes. Running in boots also helps to prepare me for the winter. Running in snow is extremely challenging. I’m not only dealing with resistance from the snow, but also the heavier boot. Training in boots during the warmer months helps keep my legs conditioned for the tougher runs that I experience each winter. An example can be seen below. Running Speed?A few people asked if I was running in boots with hopes of improving my running speed. The answer is no. Running in boots has nothing to do with speed. Personally, I’m not concerned about running speed. I’m not a runner. If I was, I probably wouldn’t run in boots. As a boxing coach, running speed is one of the last things on my mind. I’m more concerned with effort. For example, you might not move as fast with boots, but as long as you’re pushing yourself, you will benefit from the work. Your legs will be challenged in a way that feels similar to what’s experienced when the legs fatigue inside the ring. Anyone who has ever boxed knows the feeling of heavy legs in the later rounds. Training in boots can help condition the legs for those times. Even as a coach, I find boot training beneficial. I’m often holding pads for one fighter after another which involves constantly moving around the ring. The added endurance that I receive from these sessions certainly helps in that regard. FrequencyI also received several questions about how often I train in boots. I don’t have a specific schedule to share however. The best way to describe my boot training frequency would be to say that I wear them occasionally. Some weeks, I may train in boots a few times. Other weeks, I may not wear them at all. Once again, it’s just another tool in my arsenal that I use on occasion when I’m running hill sprints or skipping rope. Choosing BootsAs for what boots to wear, my prerequisites are quite simple. I want something that’s comfortable and waterproof. I don’t have a single brand that I swear by though. In the video above, I’m wearing a Timberland boot, but I’ve used many brands over the years and honestly can’t tell the difference between most. As long as the boots are comfortable and can be waterproofed with a spray, they will do the job. Final ThoughtsIn summary, I hope this brief entry helps to clarify my position on training in boots. I’ll be the first to admit that doing so is not necessary. With that said, I’ve always found such sessions to be quite difficult. Having run hills and skipped rope for so many years, it’s nice to have another way to mix things up and challenge myself (physically and mentally). Related Entry: +++++

1/2 tsp granulated garlic
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 cups cooked brown rice
Cooking oil spray
4 eggs
How to make it
In a large nonstick pan, sauté onion pieces in a thin layer of water. When the onions become translucent, add almonds and teriyaki sauce. Add minimal water as needed; when liquid begins to absorb, mix in green beans and almond butter. Add cooked rice to pan, mixing in garlic and cayenne pepper. Watch: ‘Venom’ set videos of Tom Hardy’s badass motorcycle stunts and the first look at Michelle Williams as Anne Weying
http://ift.tt/2FhIznO For as much as Sony and Marvel have kept details about Venom under wraps, there’s been plenty for fans to see. Production on the comic book adaptation has been underway in San Francisco, and eagle-eyed fans have spotted Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams working on the film. The production released the first official look at Hardy in the film as Eddie Brock; but there haven't been any hints about what the Venom costume will look like. [RELATED1] Williams has confirmed she’s playing Anne Weying, the ex-wife of Brock. In the comics, Weying becomes She-Venom; but there’s no indication she’ll turn into a super-powered being in this film. Here's a look at Hardy and Williams filming a scene together:
Hardy’s been spotted on-set before, including an intense fight scene alongside actor Scott Haze. In that video, Hardy appeared to be battling for control of his body—leading fans to speculate it’s one of the times he’ll be taken over by the Venom symbiote suit. [RELATED2] Hardy was once again spotted doing a similar performance. So it’s pretty clear he won’t be in full control of his body once the film team adds in the CGI Venom costume. Take a look:
The movie should have some pretty badass action scenes, too. Here's a look at one of them:
Plot details on the film have been scarce. However, Hardy and director Ruben Fleischer confirmed in a video to fans that the Lethal Protector storyline, as well as the Planet of the Symbiotes comic book arc, will be the main inspirations for the Venom film. [RELATED3] In the original Venom: Lethal Protector comic, Spider-Man and Venom come to an agreement they’ll stay out of each other’s business, as long as Venom stops committing crimes. After that, Venom picks up and moves to San Francisco—where, maybe not so coincidentally, the Venom movie is being shot. Eventually, Spider-Man heads to the West Coast to help Venom take on the villainous symbiote creations of the Life Foundation: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony. While the film may not follow this exact storyline, odds are good it'll take some of the major plot points. [RELATED4] Here are a few more looks at Hardy and Williams during production of the film:
Venom is set for an October 5 release. [RELATED5] Fitness via Men's Fitness http://ift.tt/2u0SmvI January 26, 2018 at 11:18AM |
